Club championships were held on Saturday around the Pound Creek circuit. Conditions were warm and sunny but with a light wind blowing from the south. The senior title was over 2 laps of the course with 13 riders in the main field. The first lap was pretty steady with the only interest being Steve Piasente who hit a pothole and blew his tyre. The second lap had more action with the hard riding culminating in 4 riders gaining a break over the Golf Course hill – Nick Aitken, Stuart Smith, Eamon Feely and Thierry Rolland. By the time the riders hit the run down the Pound Creek road the gap was around 400m. Even though the chasing riders worked hard to bridge the gap the leading quartet had time to finesse the final sprint. Stuart Smith lead out early but under-estimated the head wind. This allowed Nick Aitken to come through and claim the Title from Stuart, Eamon picked up 3rd and Thierry 4th. The bunch was lead home by Neil White from Tom Debenham, Paul Taranto, Ron Purtle, Clem Fries and Tony Smith in 10th place.
The Junior A grade riders raced over one lap with the B Grade seniors also in the field but doing 2 laps. The juniors, Tom Dudley and Elliott Gin were quickly into the action along with Rod Cheyne, having his first ride after some riding in Italy. These early attacks soon upset the bunch leaving just 5 in the bunch at the end of the first lap. Tom Dudley took the win from Elliott with Mike Wight claiming 3rd. On the second lap Rod and Malcolm Gin had Steve Wilson in trouble several times. Perhaps this was partly due to Steve battling a chain which had a broken joining link forcing him to stay in the saddle all the ride. However, at the finish line it was Steve Wilson winning from Rod and Malcolm.
The Junior B grade title was run over the out and back run along the Pound Creek Rd. This includes the long dead climb up to the Inverloch Road. The field stayed together to the turn but Matt Dudley succumbed to the pressure pedaling of the other trio on the return run. In the dash to the line it was Mitch Gin winning from Liam McCall and Jarrod Donohue.
On Sunday the club members had a social ride to Inverloch for a Paul The Pieman pie ride. They were joined by the Inverloch Cruizers making a pretty big group on the road. Next week racing is at Korrine.
