Club racing was held from Korrine on Saturday with seniors riding 2 laps of the 19km circuit around through Lance Creek. The day started of with a little bit of sunshine and an easterly but changed shortly after the start to a cold easterly and overcast day. The senior field was made up of 26 starters with the scratch bunch of 4 riders giving away a start of 9minutes to the 2 limit riders. In between there were five riders on 7 minutes, 8 riders on 4 minutes and 7 riders on 2 minutes
After the first lap the strong trio of new rider Jamie Grenfell, David Lumby and Peter Hollins from the 7 minute bunch had rounded up the limit riders of Rick Whitehouse and Ken Barnes and dropped their co-markers in the process. The 6 minute bunch saw the trio of junior riders ā Tom Dudley, Morgan Clark and Elliot Gin along with Tom Debenham and Malcom Gin closing the gap and moving well a possible threat to the leaders.
It was a similar situation with the 2 minute bunch where Eamon and Kevin Feely, Neil White and Phil Camenzuli were travelling well and holding the scratch bunch at bay. The head wind and the hills caught up with some legs on the second lap.
At the sprint to the finish near the Korrine tennis courts David Lumby found the down hill finish to his liking as he edged out Peter Hollins for the major prize. The winning time was 64.26 min. It was two weeks running for a silver for Peter. Next home a minute later was the 4 minute bunch with Tom Dudley doing best to claim 3rd place just ahead of Morgan Clark, Tom Debenham and Elliott Gin.
A further 20 sec adrift came the 2 minute bunch with Eamon Feely leading home the sprint for 7th. Neil White picked up 8th, Kevin Feely 9th and Phil Camenzuli rounded out the top 10. Fastest time and 14th place went to Thierry Roland in a narrow win in the sprint over Clem Fries.
The Junior B race was raced up the hill to the Glen Alvie corner, back past the finish line to the West Creek corner and return to the finish line a distance of around 10km. First away was Thomas McFarlane followed by Matt Dudley and then scratch for Mitch Gin. After being on big brothers bike last weekend Matt Dudley was back on his bike and not travelling so well this week. Tom still had his lead after the hill run but Mitch had closed the gap. Fortunately for Thomas, Mitch was delayed by a couple of cars at the West creek corner āUā turn. This enabled Thomas to claim the win ahead of a fast finishing Mitch and Matt in 3rd place.
Next week club members have the weekend free or they are racing in the Gippsland 3 day tour with racing at Lindenow, Stratford and Yinnar. Club racing will resume on June 13 with racing at Tarwin Lower.
