The club senior A grade riders raced for the McIndoe Cup on Saturday involving a 2 lap scratch race around the Pound Creek circuit. Following morning drizzle riders were lucky to get dry conditions but with a cold south westerly wind. The wind was a tail wind up the hills past the hot houses but a head wind for the run down the Pound Creek Rd. With the aces racing in the teams event at Modella plus other riders missing the A grade field was reduced to 9 riders. The first lap saw plenty of pace on and Morgan Barnes and Steve Piasente lost contact on the first climb over the Golf course hill. The second lap saw Tony Clark, Thiery Roland and Eamon Feely keep the pressure on however, Neil White, Gavin Slavin, Ron Purtell and Kevin Feely survived for the final dash to the line. Gavin Slavin was the first to lead out and this proved to be the winning formula as he crossed a clear winner from Eamon Feely and Thierry Roland. They were followed home by Ron Purtell, Kevin Feely, Tony Clark and Neil White.

The B grade seniors also rode a 2 lap scratch race and it was the junior trio of Morgan Clark, Tom Dudley and Elliott Gin in with Ken Barnes and Steve Wilson. The juniors were setting a good pace early and bouncing over the hills. This saw Ken Barnes lose contact on the climb past the hot houses plus Steve Wilson was in trouble with a sore back. By the time the leading trio reached the golf course hill, Tom and Elliott were getting tired legs. This allowed Morgan Clark to attack, gain a substantial break and solo to the line a clear winner. Tom Dudley managed to chase hard and come home in 2nd place whilst Elliott was in trouble and soon had Ken Barnes catch up and help him back to the finish. Ken was a bit like the hair and tortoise as he managed to claim the 3rd place.

Next week racing is at Outtrim for individual time trials plus a dash up Mt Misery. Tuesday night there is a club meeting at Rob Aitken's house.
