Friday night presented great warm conditions for track racing. Unfortunately there were only a few starters and riders back at school were feeling a bit tired. First event for the night was a 1 lap Time Trial. Once again Elliot Gin recorded a sub 32 sec lap. His next target for the season is to go under 31 sec. Ben Patterson was also slick off the mark and clocked a 33.94 sec. He was followed by Matt Dudley on 34.85sec and Thomas McFarlane 36.95sec.

After a brief recovery they were back on the track for a 6 lap Scratch Race. As expected Elliot Gin took the win but Ben Patterson was right beside him as they crossed the line. Matt Dudley was also challenged by Thomas but managed to hang on for 3rd.

The riders were complaining they were tired but all fronted up for a 12 lap Point Score featuring 3 intermediate sprints and the final sprint. Ben worked hard to challenge Elliott, and Matt was working hard to keep in front of Thomas. Matt upset the finishing order at the third sprint but could not maintain the effort for the last sprint. The end results were Elliott, Ben and Matt, first, second and third respectively.

The motor bike was handy so riders were given another distance event – a 10 lap Motor-Paced Scratch Race. With all the riders intact when the bike pulled of at 1.5 laps to go, Thomas was sitting in second wheel behind Matt, who was coming to the bell, when Matt swung up to leave Thomas on the front. However, Elliot was soon attacking and heading for the line for another win. Ben claimed second and Matt 3rd.

The club needs all riders on deck to run the annual club Track Titles and the weekends are running out so hopefully all will be there over the next few weeks. Meanwhile senior riders are all putting in some long hours as a large number are riding the Murray to Moyne Relay fundraiser at the end of March, for Hospitals around Gippsland.

At the club meeting last week it was decided that the first road race of the season will be graded scratch races. It is hoped that some of the riders in action out of Inverloch over the summer might try some racing.
