‘Sauvie’ was an all-round Club ‘good guy’, tragically losing his life in April 2006 – due to medical complications.

The tenth annual John Sauvarin Memorial social ride was held on 10th April 2016 at the Koonwarra Reserve on Sunday morning in windy yet pleasant conditions. Approximately 45 family members, friends, and Leongatha Cycling Club members attended the event.
Participants had the option to choose between a 38 km ride along Pound Creek Road or a walk/ride along the Great Southern Rail Trail, which featured the newly opened bridges to Meeniyan and back. The day concluded with a barbeque and a social gathering.
John was a highly regarded life member of the Leongatha Cycling Club, and this social ride is held annually in his honour while raising funds for the Heart Foundation.
