CX at Rob and Natasha’s farm 13th May 2023

“LCC CX ride is done and dusted, with thanks to all those who attended and supported our efforts. We had a top afternoon in the sunshine at Rob and Natasha’s farm, with a mix of seniors and juniors. Extra thanks to Morgan Barnes from Wheelheat in Wonthaggi for prize donations, as well as Rob and Natasha, and special mention to Brad Higgins for the most distance travelled to attend.” – Facebook post

Lindsay’s report:

Leongatha Cycling Club Cyclo Cross Day

The club had a really enjoyable afternoon for the cyclo cross event at the Dowel property at Leongatha South.  The event was held in some open paddock and bush circuit, including a bit of mud and water.  The circuit was around 1.6km in length.  The senior riders rode for 40min and the quickest riders managed to clock up 9 laps.  The evergreen David McFarlane was able to show the younger riders how to chalk up the laps.  Chris Baillie was the second rider home after 9 laps followed by the rest of the field at various gaps.  The Club even had a rider from Shepparton take part in the senior group.

In the junior event, Zak Dowel and William Langford-Jones get each other company over the 25 minutes of riding and 4 laps whilst the younger duo of Tom and Charlie enjoyed the outing.  After the riding there was hot sausages, pumpkin soup and tea and cover had whilst comparing one’s efforts.

With the great weather there was a sizeable spectator group including a 1964 Olympian keeping and eye on the event.

Thanks to all those that helped make the day possible including some sponsorship from Morgan Barnes of Wheelheat at Wonthaggi and John Kennedy of Bicycle Fit at Korumburra.  Keep an eye on the club web site or Facebook page.  Our next event will depend on the weather and being able to access the paddock.
