Velodrome 11th March 2020

Friday night was once again impacted and washed out by the cold change that blew through late in the day. However, this was half expected and was one reason why riders were given some racing on Wednesday night at training. Working with the young riders can be very rewarding and this was demonstrated on Wednesday night once again as some of the riders realise that they can do it. There was a good roll up of riders on Wednesday night and after their training warm up the riders were give some sprint match races. Heat 1 was between Oscar Davis and Felicity Waddell and Oscar made sure he took the honours in that heat. The next heat saw Erica Deery, Tom Geary and Ethan Davis line up. Erica looked like she had it under control but a determined finish from Ethan saw him grab a close win from Erica and Tom. The next heat saw Kate Geary up against Renee Hardacre and following some hard training nights Kate managed to lead out and hang on for the win. Moving into the B grade riders it was Asher Davis in battle with Zac Dowel. Asher made the early going but Zac came home hard to take the win. In the last heat it was Trent and Ryan Derrick matched against Stephen Spencer. This saw Stephen grab the win from Ryan and Trent.

The next racing was an A grade elimination with 7 riders and several riders still recalling a poor ride the previous Friday night. They were determined to not have history repeat. The last few eliminations to reach the last 3 standing were pretty taxing and it was Erica who ran out of legs taking 3rd place leaving Oscar to take the win from Ethan. In the B grade elimination for 5 riders, it was Ryan Derrick who took charge early riding away from the field and opening up a lead the others could not chase down. Zac Dowel was a frustrated rider as he had to settle for 3rd whilst Trent Derrick rode into 2nd place behind Ryan.

The last events for the evening was a 5 lap scratch race for A grade. Once again Oscar took the honours but had to work hard to stay in front of Erica in 2nd and Ethan in 3rd. In the B grade 3 lap scratch race it was Zac Dowel who secured the win from Ryan and Trent.

Wednesday night this week should see some racing added to the training program along with a BBQ and social get together. The weather should be suitable and we will avoid the potential Friday wash out.
